Gabriel Teancum Ernst
Well, we blessed our little one today. We had no family there, but I didn't feel sad. I felt a little stressed that he would scream during the whole thing or have a blowout in his white outfit minutes before. But he didn't. He was just peaceful and a little angle. I felt happy we have the gospel and the priesthood and ordinances. I felt love for friends who have been so helpful and kind. I felt grateful for my beautiful healthy children. I felt Peace. I felt so much Joy to have Gabe be a part of our family. Darren gave him a great blessing. It was a beautiful day all around.

Get to know Darren...
I post about my kids all the time- It's time for you to get to know Darren a little better. The best way to describe Darren? Our good friends Bryce and Amy once described him "passionate about life!" That about sums up Darren. He doesn't do anything halfway. Food is not "fine", it's either "delicious or disgusting". He likes to ride motorcycles very fast and bungee jump off 500 foot bridges. He wears a speedo when he snorkels so he can swim faster and dive deeper. He has broken so many bones I've lost track. He likes dirt biking, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, street biking, tri-Athelons, swimming, climbing, working out, and wrestling. He LOVES motorcycles. He wants to climb to the top of the highest mountain in all 50 states. He has a great vocabulary is is constantly using words I have never heard before. He likes to be silly, and tease the kids. He likes to cook. He is a great dad. Darren is a very fun person to be married to. One of my favorite things about Darren is he is very self disciplined. He gets up on time, works out with a passion, eats healthy, and is always on time. He can make me so mad, and then schmooze me and get me to forgive him in less than 5 seconds. Here are some pictures of Darren goofing off- taking pictures of himself to make me laugh. He had shaved his beard to a ridiculous goatee, mustache thing just to get a reaction out of me. It was hilarious.
Ha ha! Darren makes life really fun. My kids love him and I love him.

That was fast
Wow- well, that was really fast. Surgery is done and everything went fine. I went in at 6:00 this morning and was home by 9:30. I actually feel pretty good, but that's probably the drugs talking. ha ha ha. My doc said that there was placenta parts in the uterus. I am so thankful I have such a good doctor who found it. Things could have been a lot worse. Well, I'm in a good mood. bye bye everyone!

Not so good
So I went to my 6 week check-up yesterday. Sometimes I find healthy check-up's annoying. I tend to think, "if I have a problem, I'll call ya". But I go, just in case. Anyways, during the exam, the Dr. said, "we need to have an ultrasound done on you." I instantly thought- that's not good.
Turns out there is still something in my uterus. Probably some of the placenta. So I am going to the hospital in the morning for a D&C. I was a little taken back, as I expected everything to be fine and I have been feeling great. I guess it's not. I asked her if we could just wait and see if it passes. She said that is really not a good idea as it has already been 6 weeks. It will either turn into an infection, or the body will try to flush it out, which is really dangerous. I agreed that the surgery sounded like a better alternative to bleeding out. I am so thankful for good doctors- and modern medicine. It should just be half a day and I'll be home tomorrow night. I am pretty bummed though- I was going to take my kids to the beach tomorrow! Instead I have to have a stinking surgery. Ughhh. Hopefully everything will be just fine.
It is so crazy to me how dangerous having a baby is. Here it is 6 weeks later, and if it were in the old days, I am still at risk of dying from childbirth. Any day now I would just start bleeding like crazy and die! Scary. Well, it's 1 am and I get up at 5:30, so I'd better get a couple hours sleep before tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Mom's are the best
My mom recently came to help me when Gabe was born. When I left for the hospital my back porch was pretty pathetic. It was clean, thanks to my cleaning the day before- if you remember the video. But it didn't really have any decorations set up. Anyways, while I was in the hospital my mom decorated the Lanai. It turned out beautiful!! I love it. She got me a nice rod iron table, some side tables, and beautiful plants and containers. We love to go out there now and have breakfast, or candlelight dinner. It's so nice to have another room. Thanks mom!!
I got this cool metal sculpture at a yard sale in Rigby. Love it
I just got this awesome pot at a yard sale here in Naples last week. Love it too!

My baby-
YOU ARE-
“You are the trip I did not take, you are the pearls I could not buy,
you are my blue Italian lake, you are my piece of foreign sky.
You are my Honolulu moon, you are the book I did not write,
you are my heart's unuttered tune, you are a candle in my night.
You are the flower beneath the snow, in my dark sky a bit of blue,
answering disappointment's blow with "I am happy! I have you!”

So tired
Having a new baby can be exhausting - as I'm sure most of you know. My 3 other kids put me through sleep deprivation for months. So far Gabe has not put me through that. He has actually been a really good sleeper. By the time he was 3 weeks old he had slept through the night twice! - And he has done that a couple nights since then. Usually he only wakes up 1-2 times a night. Things are going pretty well. It makes having a new baby so much more enjoyable when you get a little sleep! However, the last couple of nights I have been sick and Gabe got an immunization. So, on top of being sick myself, I have a fussy baby. It has made me very tired. Last night Darren got up about 3 am, I woke up and my throat was killing me! I whispered to him, "hey, can you get me some Ibuprofen" so he brought me 2 pills. I put them in my mouth and was going to get a drink of water from my night stand, but I was just so tired! Yea, I fell asleep with the pills in my mouth. I woke up later with 2 disintegrated pills under my tongue and my mouth was pretty much on fire. Hopefully I feel better tomorrow.

Oh boy
So the other day a friend came over. Kyle was playing his Nintendo DS, and she said, "oh, do you like to play video games?" And Kyle said, "yea, I'm addicted to electronics and sugar."
Seriously? Here I was thinking I was a good parent. Hmmm.

Waiting for Fall
I
saw a picture of Cooke City, Montana on Facebook a couple of days ago.
It was beautiful. It made me think about winter. I have completely
missed winter this year. We moved to Tennessee last summer- just as
fall was about to come- so I have had 11 straight months of summer.
Nine of which I have been pregnant. It gets very confusing when you
grow up with seasons, and suddenly it's summer all the time. I keep
waiting and waiting, and waiting for fall to come and it just doesn't.
It's very confusing- especially during Halloween, Thanksgiving,
Christmas, New Years, and Valentines. This "Winter" the X-games were
on TV- (a bunch of guys snowboarding) and I was thinking, "why in the
world are they airing snowboarding on TV now? It must be an old episode
or something!" And the other week as I was walking down the sidewalk
watching the lizards scurry into the bushes I thought, "I wonder what
the lizards do during the winter, do they hibernate?" Ha. It really is
hard to remember what time of year it is! I know some people would love
summer all year long- but I'm not one of them. I love seasons!! I
love every single one of them. Spring, summer, fall winter.
So,
all this talk about winter made me think of one of my favorite poems. I
have been thinking about poetry a lot lately. Every time I hold my
baby I want to write poems about how beautiful he is. I haven't had
anything awe inspiring make it to paper. So I will share some of my
favorite poems by Robert Frost. It's funny they all happen to be about
nature.
This first one is my all time favorite.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (1923)
- Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
- My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
- He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
- The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep. - Robert Frost
-Another one I love
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
-and another favorite.
Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
A little play on words
So the other day I was driving and the kids were in the van with me. They were talking about smoking and tobacco.
When Kyle says, "Dad does tobacco"
Me:"Kyle, dad does not use tobacco"
Kyle, "yes he does, he does all the time"
Me, "Kyle, what are you talking about, you must be confused, dad does not use tobacco"
Kyle, "Yes he does! The hot sauce, he puts on his food! He uses it all the time!"
Me, laughing, "Ohhh, you mean Tobasco! there is a difference sweetie!"
Darren and I were laughing thinking about the scandal that might have occurred if he had a lesson in church about the Word of Wisdom. I'm sure Kyle would have told his teacher that his dad uses tobacco. Thank goodness we got it straightened out. Unless they already had that lesson.
